The grey mesh strap adds a modern touch to the Classic Collection

A new colour addition to an iconic design

MONDAINE introduces a new colour addition to its iconic Classic Collection with the launch of an Anthracite dial. This latest interpretation brings a contemporary nuance to the collection, combining timeless Swiss design with a modern aesthetic. The new colourway offers an elegant alternative for those who value minimalism with a distinctive edge.

Timeless design meets modern sophistication
The Anthracite Classic stays true to the design language of the Official Swiss Railways Clock while introducing a deeper, more architectural tone. The anthracite dial creates a refined contrast with the bold hour and minute markers and the iconic red seconds hand, preserving the high legibility that defines MONDAINE’s design heritage. For enhanced functionality, the hands are treated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring clear readability in low-light conditions.

Signature details and everyday reliability

Housed in a 40mm case crafted from recycled stainless steel, the watch features a brushed finish with a polished top ring, combining durability with refined elegance. A mineral crystal protects the dial, while a water resistance of 5 ATM ensures suitability for everyday wear.
Powered by a precise Swiss quartz movement, the Anthracite Classic delivers dependable performance and accuracy, reflecting MONDAINE’s commitment to Swiss craftsmanship and classic design.

The introduction of the Anthracite colourway further enriches the Classic Collection, demonstrating once again how MONDAINE continues to evolve an iconic design while remaining faithful to its origins. This new addition is designed for those who appreciate timeless aesthetics, functionality, and Swiss Made quality.

The origins of the Classic Collection

The Swiss Railways clock was originally developed in 1944 by Hans Hilfiker, an engineer for the Swiss Federal Railways. His design marked a significant shift away from the elaborate clock faces of the Art Nouveau era to a minimalist approach of a white background, hour and minute markers represented by simple black rectangles, geometric hands, and finally, a prominent red second hand with a red disc. This disc, inspired by the trowel of the dispatchers who handled trains at railway stations, allowed the clock to be read precisely to the second, even from a distance.
It was most likely the unrivalled simplicity and high legibility that turned the clock face of the Swiss Railways clock into an iconic design. MONDAINE’s Classic Collection first made this design available for all to wear as a wristwatch and has continued to follow the principle of keeping to clear, minimalist aesthetics. The Classic Collection has been extended and reinterpreted in many different colours and materials and remains to be one of the most popular MONDAINE Collections to date.
