Watch details
Encased in a brushed stainless-steel 48mm case, the Special Edition Pocket Watch features a lid that protects the dial while adding to the piece’s traditional allure. The matching carabiner and stainless steel chain adds practical flexibility and allows the watch to be securely attached to vests, bags or belts. The iconic high-contrast dial is a symbol of clarity and precision, easily recognised around the world.

Special edition
The official launch is August 1st, the Swiss National Day, a homage to the watch’s roots in Swiss heritage and craftsmanship. Only 200 units of the Special Edition Pocket Watch will be produced, making it a rare collector’s item. The case back is elegantly engraved with the MONDAINE and SBB logos as well as the individual number of the limited edition.

The origins of the design
The first pocket watches date back to circa 1600 and marked the beginning of watchmaking. These designs developed from miniature versions of church or turret clocks and were rare and reserved for the elite. With time, they became more and more refined and intricate and by the 18th century had become accessible to many. The pocket watch remained the conventional type of watch until after World War I, when wrist watches started to become increasingly popular.
The Classic design of the dial that inspired MONDAINE’s Special Edition Pocket Watch dates to 1944, when Swiss engineer Hans Hilfiker created the Official Swiss Railways Station Clock. His groundbreaking design with its minimalist white background, black geometric markers, and the unmistakable red seconds hand became a national icon and a symbol of precision.

Today, that same design language is preserved in this new pocket format, demonstrating once more MONDAINE’s dedication to clarity, functionality, and timeless Swiss aesthetics. The special edition is a true stand-out design that honours this long-standing tradition and MONDAINE’s watchmaking heritage.
